Sabrina Ionescu named to first WNBA All-Star game as starter
Sabrina Ionescu is going to her first All-Star game, and she’s doing it as a starter.
It was announced on Wednesday that the former Oregon Duck star and current New York Liberty standout has been selected to the 2022 WNBA All-Star game. The game takes place on July 10 (ABC, 10 a.m. PT) in Chicago.

A’ja Wilson and Breanna Stewart, co-captains for the game, will pick their squads during ESPN’s WNBA All-Star Team Selection Special on July 2 (noon p.m. PT). They will choose their teams from the remaining pool of eight starters, including Ionescu.
The former No. 1 overall pick in the 2020 draft is enjoying the best season of her young career, with nightly averages of 16.7 points (10th, WNBA), 6.4 boards (leading all WNBA guards), and 6.1 assists, (fourth, WNBA). She has reached 20 points seven times so far this season and 30 points twice in 16 games.
This season, Ionescu has put up historic stat lines while becoming the youngest player in WNBA history to post multiple triple-doubles.
