Two nights ago, Sabrina Ionescu made some New York Liberty history as a playmaker, setting a franchise record for assists in a game.

On Tuesday night, the All-Star guard used her prowess as a scorer to give the Liberty a crucial win over the Los Angeles Sparks. The Liberty entered Tuesday night’s contest one game back of the Sparks in the race for the final playoff spot. Ionescu poured in 31 points with five made triples through the first three quarters to propel the Liberty to a 102-73 win.

The win moved the Liberty ahead of the Sparks and into eighth place in the WNBA’s standings. As things stand, New York holds the final playoff spot, just a half-game back of the Phoenix Mercury.

New York outscored L.A. by 22 points in Ionescu’s 24 minutes Tuesday night. She finished with six boards, four assists, and three steals while shooting 11-for-16 from the field and 5-for-9 from 3-point range.

The performance marked Ionescu’s fourth 30-point game of the season so far, the most in the WNBA. After dropping five of six, New York has won three of its last four games as Ionescu has led a charge back up the table. The Liberty will play the Sparks again on Wednesday and then face Phoenix on Saturday.
