Reserve Oregon quarterback Robby Ashford expected to enter transfer portal, per report
In this day and age, multiple scholarship quarterbacks in a room with similar eligibility clocks don’t last long. Someone leaves. There’s always a spot in the transfer portal.
Oregon experienced that on Monday. According to Yahoo Sports’ Pete Thamel, Robby Ashford is expected to enter the transfer portal.
Source: Oregon quarterback Robby Ashford plans to enter the NCAA transfer portal. He’s expected to end up in there in the next 24 hours. Ashford was the No. 15 @rivals dual-threat QB in 2020.

Ashford did not make an appearance in 2020, and then did not attempt a pass this year. The 2020 signee was buried on the depth chart behind fellow second-year quarterback Jay Butterfeld and 2021 signee Ty Thompson, the No. 7 quarterback in the 247Sports Composite for his class.
A 6-foot-4 quarterback and former 4-star, Ashford signed with Oregon out of Hoover (Ala.) High School. He was ranked as the 12th-best dual threat quarterback in the 2020 class and 290th overall, per the 247 Composite.
It’s not a departure that puts new head coach Dan Lanning in a bind at quarterback, but it does clear the picture a little in the quarterback room. Thompson had a recruiting profile that would seem to suggest he’ll either get a shot in Eugene or go somewhere else where he will. Butterfield was a 4-star in his own right and a top-150 prospect overall. The Ducks also added Auburn transfer quarterback Bo Nix last month.
