Oregon’s offensive coordinator might be a one-and-done.

According to 247Sports’ Chris Hummer, first-year Duck assistant Kenny Dillingham has “had discussions with power-brokers” at Arizona State about its vacant head coaching job.

Dillingham is in his first season with Oregon following a two-year stint with Florida State. With Dan Lanning coming over as the program’s head coach and possessing more of a defensive background, the offense has been Dillingham’s to drive. And, so far, it has thrived. The Ducks are 9-2 this year and one win away from a fourth consecutive Pac-12 title game thanks, in part, to an offense that ranks sixth nationally in yards per play and fourth nationally in points per game. For his efforts, Dillingham was named a semifinalist for the Broyles Award on Monday.

Long a rumored candidate for the Arizona State job, Dillingham has roots in the state of Arizona that would seemingly make the partnership attractive for both sides. His first FBS coaching job came at Arizona State in 2014 when he worked as an offensive assistant under Todd Graham. He worked at Chaparral High School in Scottsdale prior to that.

Dillingham began his coaching career after he tore his ACL during his senior year of high school (2007). He began working with the junior varsity team before being elevated to the offensive coordinator role on the varsity squad at just 21 years old. Dillingham coordinated the No. 1 offense in the state of Arizona in 2013 as the Firebirds won 12 games and advanced to the Division II state championship game.

Arizona State parted ways with Herm Edwards after a Sept. 17 loss to Eastern Michigan at home. Interim coach Shaun Aguano has led the program to a 2-6 record since Edwards’ departure.

With a win over Oregon State on Saturday (12:30 p.m. PT, ABC), the Ducks would clinch a spot in the Pac-12 Championship Game to face USC. With two losses on the résumé so far, the College Football Playoff appears to be out of reach for the time being, but Oregon could realistically go to the Rose Bowl regardless of how the Pac-12 title game goes.
