Rece Davis says Oregon is not just a threat to make the College Football Playoff this season, he believes the Ducks can win the whole thing.

“Oregon is going to have to lose another game before I take them out of the national championship picture,” Davis told reporters in Salt Lake City on Friday. “I think that is a national championship — not just Playoff — a national championship-caliber team.

“Now, this is a really difficult test, and it’ll be their second really difficult test.”

The Ducks fell to No. 5 Washington in Seattle in Week 7, 36-33. It was a game that went right down to the wire and saw the Ducks push a field goal just wide as the clock expired.

Oregon rebounded last week with a comfortable 38-24 win over Washington State at home.

Now, the Ducks head to Utah to face the 13th-ranked Utes in a game that will play a huge role in determining the participants in this year’s Pac-12 title game.

Both teams come in with a conference loss. Whoever wins will continue to control their destiny in the Pac-12 championship picture and, thus, stay alive in the CFP conversation.

The Ducks and Utes face off at 12:30 p.m. PT on FOX.
