Oregon wide receiver Troy Franklin exits Pac-12 Championship with apparent injury
Oregon wideout Troy Franklin was helped off the field in the second quarter of Friday night’s Pac-12 Championship Game with an apparent left shoulder injury.
On a third-and-4 play, quarterback Bo Nix tried to hit the Ducks’ star receiver on a slant route for the first down. Washington’s Jabbar Muhammad got an arm across Franklin’s body to force an incompletion and brought Franklin to the ground. He landed hard on his shoulder and stayed down on the field. Trainers were quickly out to check on him.
Oregon kicked a field goal on the ensuing fourth-down play to put three points on the board and cut Washington’s lead to 10-3.
The more pressing issue, though, is the status of Franklin. He has been Oregon’s best big-play threat throughout the season, shredding the program’s receiving record book. He entered Friday’s game with 77 receptions for 1,349 yards and 14 touchdowns on the season.
He ranks third nationally in receiving yardage, just slightly ahead of Washington star and Biletnikoff finalist Rome Odunze.
He also leads all Pac-12 pass-catchers this season with 15 receptions of at least 30 yards.
Update (6:40 p.m.):
Franklin returned to the game for Oregon’s final drive of the first half.
