Oregon has landed a commitment from Oklahoma transfer quarterback Dillon Gabriel.

Gabriel will step in with one remaining season of eligibility after spending three years at UCF to begin his career and then two years at Oklahoma. With Bo Nix exhausting his eligibility at the end of the season and the Ducks preparing to transition into the Big Ten, Oregon has its bridge quarterback.

ESPN has Gabriel ranked as the best offensive player in the portal.

The 5-foot-11 Hawaii native brings 49 career starts to Eugene. This season, he threw for 3,660 yards and 30 touchdowns while completing 69% of his passes and throwing just six interceptions. He also added 373 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns on the ground.

For his career, Gabriel has thrown for 14,865 passing yards and 125 touchdowns. He has a career 63% completion rate and a 1.6% interception rate. He is 30 touchdown passes shy of tying Case Keenum’s career NCAA record and 4,352 passing yards shy of Keenum’s other all-time record.

This season, Gabriel was the nation’s ninth-best passer on deep balls, according to Pro Football Focus. (Bo Nix was eighth.) Among qualified passers overall, Gabriel posted the fourth-best Total QBR in the country (87.3).

His decision to transfer gives the Ducks clarity at the position after Nix, but it also might set up further moves behind him in the transfer portal.

Oregon has been linked to UCLA transfer Dante Moore, who was once an Oregon commit before flipping to UCLA in the 2023 signing class. He’s in the portal after one season with the Bruins looking for a place that will develop him as a player.

The Ducks also have to consider third-year quarterback Ty Thompson, who has patiently waited for his opportunity for three years while the Ducks have brought in multiple transfer quarterbacks now to start over him. If Thompson were to leave, the Ducks would have just 2023 signee Austin Novosad and 2024 pledge Luke Moga to back up Gabriel.

Gabriel suffered a season-ending injury after three games with UCF in 2021. Depending on what happens with Thompson, Oregon could be back on the market for another quarterback to add to the room behind Gabriel.
