Oregon seems to be in a good spot with another blue-chip prospect on the defensive line.

Earlier this week, 247Sports’ recruiting director Steve Wiltfong logged a crystal ball prediction for the Ducks to win out in the recruitment of Cypress (Texas) Cy Ranch 4-star defensive lineman Ashton Porter.

Tosh Lupoi, Tony Tuioti, and several other Oregon assistants went in-home with Porter last week. Porter is also scheduled to be in Eugene for an official visit this upcoming weekend — a trip that will serve as a return visit after he was on hand for the Ducks’ win over Utah back in November.

The Ducks are battling with Michigan State, Mississippi State, TCU, and Houston for his signature as the Early Signing Period approaches.

The 6-foot-2, 255-pound Porter ranks as the 44th defensive lineman in the 2023 class and the 58th recruit from the state of Texas. He ranks 329th overall in the industry-generated 247 Composite.

Oregon’s class currently ranks 12th nationally and first in the Pac-12. It’s a group headlined by offensive star power at the top, but one that also features a strong haul on the defensive front. The Ducks have verbal pledges from 4-star defensive linemen A’Mauri Washington, Johnny Bowens, and Terrance Green, and also from 4-star edge rushers Blake Purchase and Teitum Tuioti.
