Oregon offensive coordinator Will Stein is one of five finalists for the Broyles Award, given annually to the top assistant coach in college football.

Stein made the cut from a group of 15 semifinalists. He’s joined by Michigan’s Sherrone Moore, Iowa’s Phil Parker, Georgia’s Mike Bobo, and LSU’s Mike Denbrock. Stein is just the second Oregon assistant coach ever to be named a finalist for the award (which began in 1996).

The winner of the award will be announced at the Broyles Award ceremony on Tuesday, Dec. 5.

In his first season with the Ducks, Stein has coordinated arguably the nation’s best offense. Entering Friday’s Pac-12 Championship Game, Oregon leads the FBS in passing offense (351.4 yards), completion percentage (78.3), sacks allowed (5), first downs per game (27.3) and scrimmage plays of 10-plus yards (229).

The Ducks are No. 2 in scoring, No. 2 in yards per play, No. 3 in third down conversion rate, and the only team in the country to score at least 30 points in every game this season.

Bo Nix is a sure-fire Heisman finalist. Troy Franklin is in the midst of the best receiving season in school history. And the offensive line was voted a semifinalist for the Joe Moore Award.

“They’re probably the best Oregon offense since the Chip Kelly era, since the Mariota era,” said former Oregon offensive coordinator Kenny Dillingham. “This is the best Oregon’s been on offense in a long time. That’s including me there last year. They’re better than we were last year.”

The Ducks will play one more game before the winner of the Broyles Award is named. They meet Washington in the Pac-12 title game on Friday at 5 p.m. PT on ABC.
