Samuel M’Pemba is down to seven, and the Ducks are still on the board.

The 5-star edge rusher from Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy announced his list of seven finalists on Friday. The Ducks are joined by Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, Florida, Notre Dame, and Miami. He does not yet have a date set to announce his commitment.

M’Pemba earned an Oregon offer from the former coaching staff back in February 2021. Mario Cristobal has kept him as a target atop the Miami board since leaving Eugene and has the Hurricanes in the thick of it as well.

But Dan Lanning isn’t operating from behind. M’Pemba got an offer from Lanning when he was at Georgia in August of 2020. Just like with Cristobal, a move across the country for the current Ducks head coach did nothing to change his interest in the elite defender.

A 6-foot-3, 240-pound edge prospect, M’Pemba ranks as the 26th-best overall recruit in the 2023 cycle, per the 247 Composite. He’s the No. 3 prospect at his position and the No. 6 prospect from the state of Florida.

He told 247Sports’ Tom Loy that Oregon has “great development coaches with a lot of experience, who are locked in on being the best team.”
