Oregon locks in another blue-chip official visitor
The last weekend of June is shaping up to be an all-timer for the Oregon Ducks.
Liona Lefau has locked in an official visit for the weekend of June 24, he recently told 247Sports’ Blair Angulo. A 4-star linebacker from Kahuku (Hawaii), Lefau is the ninth blue-chip prospect to schedule an official visit to Eugene for that weekend.
The 6-foot-1, 210-pound linebacker took an official visit to Utah last weekend, and he’s scheduled to be in Austin, Texas, this upcoming weekend to visit the Texas Longhorns. Oregon coach Dan Lanning is hoping to close the deal.
Lefau was on campus unofficially back in January, as both the Ducks and this specific coaching staff have been on his radar for some time. Oregon offered Lefau back in April 2021. When the coaching staff changed over and Lanning brought in a new crop of assistants, his defensive line hire came with a pre-established relationship to the Hawaii linebacker.
Tony Tuioti recruited Lefau while he was at Nebraska. Now at Oregon, Tuioti has remained in touch, helping the Ducks stay in his top eight.
Lefau ranks as the No. 1 prospect in the state of Hawaii for the 2023 class, per the 247 Composite. He’s the 30th-ranked linebacker and 330th prospect overall. On his official visit later this month, he’ll be joined in Eugene by 5-stars Kadyn Proctor, Matayo Uiagalelei, and Richard Young, as well as fellow 4-star linebacker Blake Nichelson.
