Oregon lands pledge from 4-star QB, son of former All-American
Oregon landed an elite commitment for the future on Monday, and it comes from a player with a name that will be familiar to many Duck fans.
The player is Akili Smith Jr., the son of former Oregon quarterback Akili Smith. The elder Smith played for the Ducks in the late 90s and was the Pac-10 Offensive Player of the Year to go along with a second-team All-American nod in 1998.
Akili Jr. is a two-sport athlete and QB in the 2025 recruiting class. He already held offers from Arizona, Florida, Colorado, Michigan, Utah, Washington and others.
While there is plenty of time before we finalize the 2025 recruiting class, Smith went ahead and announced a commitment Monday afternoon.

According to the 247 Sports Composite, Smith is a 4-star recruit and the No. 6 QB in the country for the 2025 recruiting class. He’s also the 84th player in the country for the cycle. Smith is listed at 6-foot-5 and 200 pounds out of Lincoln High School in San Diego.
Impact for Oregon
Oregon’s 2025 recruiting class is already off to a hot start under Dan Lanning. Smith is the 4th player to commit with three of those players receiving a 4-star composite rating.
