Oregon dipped into the transfer portal on Thursday to bolster its receiving corps ahead of the 2023 season.

Former Troy wideout Tez Johnson — the adopted brother of Ducks quarterback Bo Nix — announced his intention to transfer to Oregon. He’ll have three years to play two with the Ducks. At 5-foot-10, 150 pounds, Johnson gives the Ducks a proven slot receiver to add to the rotation.

Johnson was a 3-star recruit out of Pinson (Ala.) Valley, where he recorded 106 catches for 1,457 yards and 10 touchdowns as a junior with Nix as his quarterback.

As a true freshman with Troy in 2020, Johnson hauled in 18 balls for 211 yards in 11 appearances. He earned All-Sun Belt Third Team honors in 2021 after bringing in 67 receptions for 735 yards and four scores. As a third-year sophomore this fall, Johnson had 56 catches for 863 yards and another four scores.

Nearly 90% of Johnson’s snaps with Troy came as a slot receiver. Chase Cota led all Ducks receivers this season in slot snaps, so there should be an opportunity for Johnson to step in and compete for a role right away.
