Oregon lands commitment from experienced punter in transfer portal
Oregon has a new punter for the 2023 season.
The Ducks picked up a commitment from Austin Peay transfer Matthew Rigney on Tuesday morning. Rigney has been Austin Peay’s primary punter for the past 3 seasons.
Here’s his announcement:
Committed! 🦆🟢🟡 #GoDucks Thankful to @CoachDanLanning, @CoachJoeLorig, @CoachRobUO, and the entire staff for this opportunity. Let’s go Ducks fans! pic.twitter.com/T3XUyQh4Md

Rigney has punted 134 times over the past 3 seasons. He’s averaged over 40 yards per punt in each of the past 2 campaigns.
He immediately becomes a potential No. 1 option for the Ducks at punter in 2023. Last season, Oregon used 4 different punters throughout the year. Adam Barry, who led the team with 12 punts, is not returning to the team next season.
Rigney will presumably compete with other internal options for the starting job. Last season, Oregon ranked last in the Pac-12 in punt yard average at 37.81.
Oregon has now taken 16 transfers so far this offseason. The Ducks’ transfer class currently ranks No. 7 nationally, per 247Sports Composite rankings.
