Oregon added to its defensive line haul on Tuesday with a verbal commitment from Cypress (Texas) Cy Ranch defensive lineman Ashton Porter.

The 4-star defender announced his commitment to Oregon during Tuesday’s Under Armour All-America Game. He chose the Ducks over Michigan State, Mississippi State, Houston, and TCU. Oregon closed hard to earn Porter’s pledge. Tosh Lupoi, Tony Tuioti, and several other Oregon assistants went in-home with Porter in December and brought him to campus for an official visit right before the start of the Early Signing Period.

The 6-foot-3, 255-pound Porter ranks as the 45th-best defensive lineman in the 2023 class and the 57th-best recruit from the state of Texas. He ranks 329th overall in the industry-generated 247 Composite.

Porter was a monster for Cypress Ranch as a senior, producing 63 total tackles, 24 tackles for loss, 15 sacks, an interception, and a fumble recovery. He told 247Sports he expects to begin his collegiate career as an edge rusher. Oregon announced his signing shortly after news of his commitment was made public.

Oregon’s class currently ranks 11th nationally and first in the Pac-12. It’s a group headlined by offensive star power at the top, but built along the defensive front.

The Ducks have signed 5-star edge rusher Matayo Uiagalelei, 4-star defensive lineman A’Mauri Washington, 4-star defensive lineman Johnny Bowens, 4-star defensive lineman Terrance Green, and 4-star edge rusher Blake Purchase. The Ducks have also signed edge rushers Teitum Tuioti and Jaeden Moore as well as defensive linemen My’Keil Gardner and Tevita Pome’e
