Oregon has a second quarterback for its 2024 class.

On Saturday, Baltimore (Md.) St. Frances Academy quarterback Michael Van Buren announced his commitment to the Ducks live on his Instagram page. Van Buren was down to Maryland, Oregon, and Penn State. In the end, new Oregon offensive coordinator Will Stein got his man, adding Van Buren to a top-10 class that also features a verbal pledge from Phoenix (Az.) Sunnyslope quarterback Luke Moga.

The 6-foot Van Buren ranks as not only one of the top quarterbacks in his class, but one of the best overall 2024 recruits in the country. He’s the No. 11 quarterback, per the industry-generated 247 Composite. Van Buren also ranks as the No. 3 prospect from the state of Maryland and the No. 129 overall recruit in the class — with room to continue rising.

Van Buren visited campus twice throughout the month of April. He took an unofficial to Penn State early on and had an official visit to State College planned for June. Now, he appears locked in with the Ducks.

As a junior last fall, Van Buren led St. Frances Academy to a 9-1 record while earning All-Metro recognition from the Baltimore Sun. He threw for 1,707 yards and 18 touchdowns while adding two rushing scores on the ground.

He has also been selected to participate in the Under Armour All-America game.

The Ducks have, so to speak, planted a bright green flag in the DMV area of late. Van Buren’s teammate, top-100 cornerback Ify Obidegwu, is committed to the Ducks as well. Oregon is chasing several other high-profile prospects in the region.

It’s also worth mentioning that Stein has now helped the Ducks land three quarterbacks — Van Buren, Moga, and 2023 signee Austin Novosad, who was a Baylor commit until Stein got involved — all before he coaches his first game inside Autzen Stadium. Considering the pedigree of Novosad and now Van Buren, that’s a strong indicator of the way Stein and his offense are viewed.

Oregon now stands at 12 known commitments for the 2024 class. You can see Van Buren’s highlight tape below, via Hudl:
