Oregon honors Virginia football players killed in shooting
The visiting Utah Utes placed a bouquet of flowers at the 4-yard-line in the northwest corner of Autzen Stadium ahead of their matchup with the Ducks Saturday evening, as several other teams have done this year to honor the memory of the late Spencer Webb.
But there was another adjustment made to the playing surface by Oregon as a way for both teams to honor the memory of three Virginia football players killed earlier this week in an on-campus shooting. Oregon painted the 1, 15, and 41-yard hashes orange to honor Devin Chandler, Lavel Davis Jr., and D’Sean Perry — the numbers correspond with the jersey numbers they wore with the Cavaliers.

Virginia president Jim Ryan said at a press conference earlier this week the shooting happened on a bus of students that were returning from a field trip. Two others were wounded in the shooting — Virginia running back Mike Hollins and a female student who was in good condition as of Tuesday morning, according to ESPN. Hollins has been recovering after multiple surgeries.
Virginia canceled its Week 12 matchup with Coastal Carolina, which was slated to be the Cavs’ final home game of 2022.
Other Pac-12 teams have also painted hash marks this weekend to show support for the Cavs.
