Oregon guard Rivaldo Soares announced on social media Monday morning that he is entering the transfer portal and leaving the Ducks after two seasons with the program.

The 6-foot-6 Soares spent two years at South Plains College before making the move to Oregon. He’ll depart with a year of eligibility remaining.

“Oregon will always be my home away from home,” he wrote. “I can always say that I graduated from Oregon. With that being said I will enter the transfer portal as a grad student to continue my journey.”

A native of Boston, Soares played in all 35 games and started the final two of the 2021-22 season for the Ducks. He averaged 4.7 points and 2.7 rebounds in just over 18 minutes a night during his first year with the program.

As a senior, he stepped into a much more integral role as an every-night starter. He drew starts in 32 of his 35 appearances while averaging 28 minutes a night. Soares put up 7.3 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 1.8 assists a game while shooting 38% from the field and 25% from 3-point range.

Coach Dana Altman faces a second consecutive offseason where he’ll look to remake the roster and put the right pieces together after Oregon finished its second straight year with at least 15 losses and at least eight defeats in conference play.

Soares becomes the fourth Duck to enter the portal since the season ended, joining guard Tyrone Williams, forward Lok Wur, and center Kel’el Ware.
