Oregon is red-hot on the recruiting trail right now.

On Thanksgiving, the Ducks earned a commitment from 2023 Converse (Texas) Judson defensive lineman Johnny Bowens. The 6-foot-3 defender announced his commitment live on the 247Sports YouTube page, picking Oregon over finalists Texas and Texas A&M.

The 6-foot-3, 265-pound Bowens took his official to Oregon the last weekend of September and that held up even after a visit to A&M earlier this month. Bowens is a 4-star prospect in the industry-generated 247 Composite and ranks as the 41st defensive lineman in the class and the 295th overall prospect.

“We got the d-line, we got the linebackers coming in,” Bowens told 247Sports. “I just feel like we’re going to be real big. I feel like when we get there we can make something shake and go for a Natty.”

His verbal pledge gives the Ducks their 24th known commitment for the 2023 cycle. The crop of front-seven players on defense is looking like a special one. Bowens is the fourth blue-chip defensive lineman or edge rusher to pick the Ducks this cycle.
