Jerry Mixon will be a Duck.

The 3-star linebacker from San Francisco (Calif.) Sacred Heart Cathedral Prep announced live on 247Sports’ YouTube page Friday afternoon that he has officially committed to Oregon. He chose the Ducks over a group of finalists that included UCLA, Arizona, Arizona State, and Missouri.

The 6-foot-3, 220-pound Mixon rates as a 3-star in the industry-generated 247 Composite. He’s viewed as the 56th-best linebacker in the class and the 55th-best prospect from the state of California.

UCLA was viewed as the likely destination for Mixon but Oregon made a late charge. He was in Eugene at the end of July, on hand for the Ducks’ Saturday Night Live camp. He told 247Sports’ Brandon Huffman that Oregon was his dream school as a child and that he “knew it was the place for me” during that July visit.

247Sports’ Greg Biggins is high on Mixon’s game, writing this in his official scouting report:

Among the most athletic linebackers in the region, is comfortable playing in space or dropping in coverage and made several nice plays on the ball. We really like his long term potential. He can play running back as well, but his upside is probably highest on the defensive side of the ball.

Mixon plays both running back and linebacker for Sacred Heart. He’s the cousin of Cincinnati Bengals tailback Joe Mixon.

His pledge gives Oregon its 14th known commitment in the 2023 cycle, joining a class that ranks top-15 nationally.
