Oregon beats out Georgia, Miami for elite 2024 defensive lineman
Oregon picked up a different kind of win on Saturday.
An hour before the eighth-ranked Ducks kicked off against the seventh-ranked Huskies in their biggest game of the season, Dan Lanning and the Ducks landed a commitment from Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei defensive lineman Aydin Breland. The 6-foot-5, 285-pound Breland picked the Ducks over Miami and Georgia.
He announced his commitment live on the 247Sports YouTube page, which you can see below:
Breland is viewed as one of the best recruits in the country. The evaluators at 247Sports view him as a top-15 recruit. In the industry-generated 247 Composite, he’s a high 4-star and ranked as the No. 38 overall prospect. Breland is also the No. 3 recruit from the state of California and the No. 8 defensive lineman.
He took official visits to each of his finalists in June.
A multi-sport athlete, Breland produced 24 tackles, 10.5 tackles for loss, and four sacks in 10 games last fall. He had nine tackles, 2.5 TFLs, and one sack as a sophomore. Breland looks like he can move a bit on the Ducks’ defensive line. He has the physical presence to hold his own inside with athleticism to kick outside. A shot put and discus background really shows up when you watch how much power he can generate with his hands.
The Ducks’ class jumps into the national top 10 with Breland’s pledge. With the Ducks rolling on the field, Lanning is starting to cook on the trail. Oregon is also in the hunt for another elite defensive prospect. When 5-star Elijah Rushing recently left the Arizona class, he was immediately linked to the Ducks.
Oregon holds 24 known commitments now. You can see Breland’s highlight tape below, via Hudl:
