It would seem Kayvon Thibodeaux avoided a major injury.

On Sunday night, the former Oregon star was cut low on a block attempt in the New York Giants’ preseason game against the Cincinnati Bengals, and left the game early in the second quarter. He walked off the field under his own power but was quickly ruled out for the rest of the game.

On Monday, Giants head coach Brian Daboll offered an update on the fifth overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.

A sprained MCL would put Thibodeaux’s recovery timetable around three weeks. The Giants play the Jets on Sunday to close out the preseason. New York opens the regular season on Sept. 11 against the Tennessee Titans on the road. The home-opener is against the Carolina Panthers a week later. New York plays the Dallas Cowboys on Monday Night Football in Week 3, on Sept. 26.

The Giants are hoping for big things from their prized rookie edge rusher this season. He has been working with the first-team defense since the start of OTAs in the spring.
