Michigan appeared to have Oregon on its radar of potential 2022 postseason opponents.

According to James Crepea of The Oregonian/OregonLive, Connor Stalions purchased tickets to Oregon’s home game against Washington on Nov. 12, 2022. Stalions is the Wolverine staffer involved in the program’s scouting activities that have prompted an NCAA investigation.

Stalions reportedly purchased tickets on the South visiting sideline, facing Oregon’s sideline. The tickets were transferred to another individual. It was first reported Friday that the NCAA was looking into allegations that individuals scouted future opponents for Michigan in person.

The scouts were reportedly focused on the signals used by scheduled opponents and potential postseason opponents. Sign stealing is not illegal under NCAA rules, but teams have not been allowed to conduct in-person scouting since 1994.

According to ESPN’s latest report, 12 of 13 Big Ten schools have a record of Stalions buying a ticket to a game. Stalions also targeted SEC teams. Yahoo Sports reported Tuesday that Stalions bought tickets for games involving Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia and Clemson, including the last 2 SEC Championship Games.

Oregon entered the 2022 Washington game with 8-1 record, undefeated in conference play. The Ducks were ranked No. 6 before falling 37-34 in overtime.

Michigan made the 2022 College Football Playoff, falling to TCU in the semifinal.
