Mario Cristobal blasted on social media after all-time coaching blunder costs Miami
Mario Cristobal and the Miami Hurricanes fell to Georgia Tech 23-20 on Saturday night.
They lost after holding the football, with a lead and less than 40 seconds remaining in the game. With Georgia Tech out of timeouts, all Miami had to do was take a knee and run out the clock.
Instead, Miami called a running play. Don Chaney Jr. fumbled the ball with 26 seconds remaining and Georgia Tech recovered it. The Yellow Jackets scored a touchdown four plays later on a 44-yard pass from Haynes King.
MIAMI COULD HAVE KNEELED THE GAME OUT
THEY INEXPLICABLY HANDED THE BALL OFF AND FUMBLED
THEN THIS HAPPENED AS TIME EXPIRED 💀💀💀

Miami was 4-0 and ranked inside the AP Top 25. The Hurricanes now have a conference loss in a league with three other unbeaten teams. That decision could prove costly in more ways than one.
The craziest part? This exact scenario might sound familiar to Oregon fans.
In 2018, Oregon led Stanford 31-28 at home with the ball near midfield. Cristobal could have had his team kneel the ball and run the clock down under 20 seconds. Instead, the Ducks ran the ball and fumbled it away to Stanford, which kicked a game-tying field goal as time expired in regulation and went on to win in overtime.
That this has now happened to Cristobal twice in a coaching career is inexplicable. And he was promptly destroyed on social media because of it.

The Miami kid on the sidelines crying over the fumble right now shouldn’t be. That shit is 100% on Mario Cristobal and his staff. He made an arrogant decision to put him in that spot. It wasn’t on the kids. All you gotta do is kneel

Instead of spending offseason sending emails threatening his staff if they talked more to local writers, Cristobal should have worked on simple math instead. What a joke.
