Kirk Herbstreit says Oregon deserves current path to Playoff
Kirk Herbstreit has no issue with the positioning of Oregon coming out of Week 12.
We are nearing the end of the college football season, and each week, we are closer to knowing who is going to be in the College Football Playoff. On Tuesday, the committee announced the top 4 are No. 1 Georgia, No. 2 Ohio State, No. 3 Michigan and Washington joins the group as the 4th team.
That is a big move as Florida State fell out, in large part because of quarterback Jordan Travis suffering a season-ending injury in the Seminoles last game.
One of the teams on the outside looking in is Oregon, who is currently No. 6. While it appears the Ducks may be on the outside looking in, Herbstreit says the Ducks have everything you would need from a Playoff team.
“You can make an argument that they have been the most consistent team all year all the way up to this point,” Herbstreit said. “Offense, defense every aspect that we’ve watched them play. What was it at halftime (in Week 12)? It was like they scored every possession, Bo Nix. Again, you can look at their opponent and say who are they playing, or you can say wow, Bo Nix is a veteran QB, he’s been through every aspect this sport has leading the way.”
While there are teams who could still get in, not all of those teams control their own destiny. However, Herbstreit said the recipe for Oregon to get in is simple.
“It will eventually play itself out,” Herbstreit said. “They play Oregon State this week, more than likely get a rematch with Washington in Las Vegas. You win those two games, Oregon will be in the Playoff and they deserve to be exactly where they are.”
While some analysts have questioned the overall résumé of the Ducks, Dan Lanning’s group is right where they need to be for the final two weeks of the season. Can they finish off a run to the Playoff?
