Kel’el Ware has found a home in the Big Ten. The former Oregon big man is heading to Indiana.

Ware announced his transfer commitment Monday on social media. The decision comes 2 weeks after he entered the transfer portal.

A former 5-star prospect with an expected future in the NBA, Ware’s season in Eugene did not go as planned.

There was a stretch in November and December in which Ware started 4 games and averaged 31 minutes of playing time per contest. Over January and February, however, his playing time was drastically reduced, sometimes to less than 10 minutes per game.

On Jan. 29 against Utah, Ware did not play as a coach’s decision by Dana Altman. This followed a 6-minute appearance in a road loss at Stanford.

“We’ve had a lot of conversations,” Altman said at the time. “They haven’t gone as well and haven’t been as constructive as we want them to be. I was disappointed in his effort. I let him know that. He’s gonna have to make some adjustments or I’ve got to make some decisions. His time has been reduced. That doesn’t help us, because he is talented.”

Ware finished the season playing 35 games, averaging 6.6 points and 4.1 rebounds over 15.8 minutes per contest. Ware logged double-digit minutes throughout the NIT, but still entered the transfer portal last month.
