Justin Herbert had the entire Chargers sideline coming to his defense, in case you were curious what he means to Los Angeles.

The star quarterback was hit late on a second-down play against the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday. The play drew an immediate flag on Raider defensive lineman Jerry Tillery — a Charger for the first three years of his career — and led to his ejection.

It also got him mobbed by more than 20 Chargers.

After the game, Chargers wideout Keenan Allen called the decision by Tillery “bullshit” and a “bonehead play.”

Herbert completed 13 of his 24 passes for 167 yards, one touchdown, and one interception in the game. It was a modest performance by Herbert’s exceptional standards, but he added 30 rushing yards and two ground scores while leading the Chargers to a 24-17 win.

He also delivered a 51-yard completion on a rope that sealed the win, converting a third-and-10 from the LA 10-yard-line. LA moved to midfield and, with the Raiders out of times, bled the rest of the clock out.

Herbert’s 12-yard rushing score on the Chargers’ opening drive made him the fifth player in NFL history to have at least 100 passing touchdowns and 10 rushing scores in the first four seasons of a career.

The Chargers have a special one, and the entire team knows it.
