Joel Klatt praises Oregon after Utah win, calls Ducks the Pac-12 favorite
Joel Klatt was on hand for Oregon’s beatdown of Utah on Saturday. He came away from the game believing Oregon is the team to beat in the Pac-12.
“Of the teams that I have seen live this year, Oregon is as good as any,” Klatt tweeted late Saturday night. “They have good depth, size, length, and speed. They are my favorite to win the Pac-12 right now.”
Oregon handled Utah from start to finish, snapping an 18-game home winning streak for the Utes.
“I don’t want to diminish what they did today at all because the score wasn’t indicative — the game was a mismatch,” Utah coach Kyle Whittingham said after the game. “It was worse than what the score indicated.”
Bo Nix scored three touchdowns and opened the game 14-for-15 on his pass attempts. Oregon kept Utah’s pass rush at bay.
Sione Vaki, who had more than 150 yards of offense in each of his prior two games, was limited to 11 yards on five touches. Utah quarterback Bryson Barnes was picked off twice. The Utes averaged only 3.7 yards a play.
It was a complete game from the Ducks, or, as Dan Lanning put it, their first four-quarter game of the season.
And it bumped them up to No. 6 in the latest AP poll. The College Football Playoff selection committee releases its first batch of rankings on Tuesday, and all eyes will be on where the top two Pac-12 teams fall.
Oregon looks like a Playoff team after whipping the Utes. If they can keep it rolling and make it to the Pac-12 title game, a chance to avenge their only loss could be waiting for the Ducks.
