Jackson Powers-Johnson has received the highest honor that a center can receive in college football.

The Oregon lineman was announced as the winner of the Rimington Trophy on Friday evening during an awards show on ESPN.

Powers-Johnson beat out Michigan’s Drake Nugent and Georgia’s Sedrick Van Pran for the award, presented annually to the most outstanding center in college football.

This year was the first season in which Powers-Johnson was a full-time starter. The center finished the  season with the highest pass-blocking grade (91.3), overall grade (83.2) and run-blocking grade (83.1) among all FBS centers, according to PFF. Powers-Johnson didn’t allow allow a sack and allowed just one pressure in 471 pass-blocking opportunities.

The center became the first Oregon Duck to win the award. Hroniss Grasu and Max Unger were both finalists, but neither Duck won the award.

Previous winners of the Rimington Trophy include Olusegun Oluwatimi, Tyler Linderbaum, and Landon Dickerson. The award has been given out annually since 2000, with Michigan, Ohio State, and Alabama all having 3 different players win the award.

The Oregon Ducks are in the running for the Joe Moore Award as well, which is annually given the nation’s best offensive line.
