ESPN's College GameDay picks the winner of Oregon-Texas Tech
ESPN’s College GameDay crew was almost unanimous.
All but one of the panelists on the traveling pregame show picked No. 13 Oregon to beat Texas Tech on Saturday. The Ducks (1-0) are coming off an 81-7 win over Portland State, but face a dangerous Tech team at home that is looking to avenge a season-opening loss to Wyoming.
Here’s how the crew picked:
- Desmond Howard: Oregon
- Pat McAfee: Oregon
- Joe Namath (guest picker): Oregon
- Lee Corso: Oregon
- Kirk Herbstreit: Texas Tech
“I love Dan Lanning, I love Bo Nix, I love Bucky Irving. Just because you pick against a team doesn’t mean you don’t love them. I’m going Texas Tech,” Herbstreit said. “Off of the loss to Wyoming, backed into a corner, they come out swinging.”
The Red Raiders blew a 17-0 first-quarter lead to Wyoming and lost in double-overtime.
Oregon has to like where it’s at coming out of Week 1, though. Even though Lanning felt the Ducks weren’t tested much — particularly in the secondary — Oregon set a program record for points scored and its offense looked just as potent under a new offensive coordinator as it did under the previous guy last season.
Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. PT on FOX.
