ESPN's College GameDay crew picks winner in Oregon-BYU clash
Oregon hosts BYU Saturday afternoon for a top-25 matchup and another significant early test for coach Dan Lanning.
The Ducks are 1-1 to begin the season after a 49-3 loss to Georgia and then a 70-14 win over Eastern Washington last weekend. With so much still unknown about this Oregon squad, the ESPN College GameDay crew was split on the matchup. The guest picker in Boone, North Carolina — country music singer Luke Combs — joined Kirk Herbstreit in picking the Ducks.
Here’s how everyone picked during the pregame show:
Desmond Howard: BYU
Pat McAfee: BYU
Luke Combs: Oregon
Lee Corso: BYU
Kirk Herbstreit: Oregon
Earlier in the show, ESPN’s odds expert, Chris ‘The Bear’ Fallica said he was taking the Ducks to cover a 3.5-point spread. Herbstreit added that he thinks the Ducks are being a bit undervalued because of the way Week 1 looked.
“I think everyone forgot that Oregon still plays football after Week 1 when they got embarrassed by Georgia,” he said. “Be careful. Autzen is still Autzen, and this defense with Dan Lanning is still real.”
We’ll find out soon enough. Kickoff is set for 12:35 p.m. PT on FOX.
