Dan Lanning has said it before and he’ll probably say it again before the season is over. Bo Nix is the best in the country.

The Oregon quarterback turned in yet another dazzling performance Saturday night in front of the home crowd and helped No. 6 Oregon beat USC 36-27. Nix completed 23 of his 31 passes for 412 yards and four touchdowns.

“Bo Nix is special,” Lanning said on the field after the game. “I think everybody else in the world is starting to recognize that. He’s a great player, he’s a better teammate, he’s a phenomenal man. We’re so glad he’s an Oregon Duck.”

The Heisman race is really heating up as the season reaches its final leg.

Nix belongs in the mix given his recent run of play. Over the four games since Oregon’s lone loss, Nix has 1,339 yards through the air, 12 passing touchdowns, four rushing touchdowns, and only one turnover. Few are playing more efficiently than Oregon’s passer.

Washington remains unbeaten, but Michael Penix Jr. has cooled in the weeks since beating Oregon. LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels might be Nix’s biggest threat at this point.

Daniels accounted for 606 total yards and five touchdowns during LSU’s win over Florida on Saturday, becoming the first quarterback in FBS history to have at least 350 yards passing and 200 yards rushing in a single game.

But Daniels’ Tigers are 7-3 and out of both the conference championship picture in the SEC and the College Football Playoff discussion.

Nix still has his Ducks in position to play for both a conference title and potentially a national title.

“I think that’s a Heisman-worthy performance from Bo,” Lanning said.
