Dan Lanning provides injury updates ahead of Oregon's game against Oregon State
The health status of several injured Ducks will be monitored closely over the next few days as Oregon readies for its regular-season finale against Oregon State. As has been the case throughout the year, though, coach Dan Lanning is keeping a tight lip.
“Yeah, I’m not talking about injuries,” Lanning said at his weekly press conference on Monday.
Starting center Alex Forsyth was unavailable in Oregon’s 20-17 win over Utah last Saturday. Jackson Powers-Johnson started at right guard but was forced out of the game and replaced by Steven Jones — making his return to the field after a lengthy absence.
“It was fun to see him get back on the field,” Lanning said. “He’s been coaching so hard on the sideline these last few games. I knew it was really important for him to get back out there and help his team, and he was able to help us. So I know he had a lot of fun. I know he’s looking at that film saying, ‘Okay, well, what can I do better?’ Which is good. That’s what we want him to do, but it was nice seeing him out there.”
Chase Cota also appeared to be available for the first time since suffering an injury during the win over Cal, but he did not see the field.
The most notable injury situation seemed to resolve itself on Saturday. Deemed to be a game-time decision heading into the contest, quarterback Bo Nix played through the entire game against the Utes after picking up an injury late in the Ducks’ loss to Washington.
“I think it’s evaluated every single day. We’ll see,” said Lanning when asked about Nix. “We have great medical staff, they do a good job. Bo understands. He’s been playing the game for a long time. He understands the way his body feels. Obviously, he was able to go out there on Saturday, but keep evaluating as we get closer to each game.”
Nix completed 25 of his 37 pass attempts against the Utes for 287 yards and a touchdown. He did have an interception and was clearly still limited by the ankle injury he sustained against the Huskies. The QB run element of Oregon’s offense was just not there until a crucial third-down run at the end of the game.
The Ducks return to the field on Saturday in Corvallis for their annual clash with Oregon State (12:30 p.m. PT, ABC).
