Dan Lanning and Oregon added several notable transfer players to the Ducks roster recently, and on Wednesday’s National Signing Day, the Oregon coach offered insight into the newcomers.

While Oregon added 10 players through the portal, but Lanning was asked about 4 of them.

They are South Carolina edge Jordan Burch, Troy WR Tez Johnson, Rhode Island OL Ajani Cornelius and Fresno State DB Bennett Williams.

About Johnson, Lanning said there was a connection with Bo Nix.

“We look for natural connections that make sense so we can have a deep dive into what kind of people we’re bringing into our program. I think that’s why we batted at such a high percentage last year,” Lanning said, per 247Sports. “But certainly, you know, Bo [Nix] has a strong relationship there that we wanted to be able to tap into.”

Lanning himself had a relationship with Burch from when he recruited him to Georgia.

“I think that it just shows that you never know when a relationship might go full circle,” Lanning said. “Jordan is a phenomenal player. I think you can see that by looking at his film. I think he has a ton of potential and I think he makes us better as a team. I know his work ethic. I know his demeanor and his approach. Having that strong relationship four years ago, you never realize it’s gonna pay off down the road and come full circle.”

About Cornelius, Lanning sees his case as a development opportunity to grow as a player.

For Williams, Lanning said, “I really liked his brother, and so I thought we’d just bring him in. Evan has an infectious personality. He has a hunger to be great. I think his film speaks for itself.
