Dan Lanning does not care what time of day the Ducks roll the ball out.

Oregon has a 1 p.m. PT kick against Washington State in Pullman this weekend. The Ducks have played twice just after noon and they’ve had an evening kick against Eastern Washington for the home opener. Things can get pretty weird in Pullman after nightfall, so Lanning was asked if he’s happy the Ducks are playing at mid-day on his weekly coaches show.

“I just want the ball out on the turf and let’s play — turf or grass. Last week we played a little bit earlier,” Lanning said. “Eggs, breakfast, and go whoop ass. That’s our plan and that’s the plan every week. Whenever you put us out there in between the lights, let’s play.”

Some coaches have a time preference. Some will privately have one while publicly saying they don’t care. Lanning seems like the type of coach who genuinely doesn’t care. Practice habits are practice habits, and he harps to the team that what they do at all times throughout the week influences what they do on Saturdays.

The 15th-ranked Ducks will look to move to 3-1 this weekend when they battled the Cougars (3-0). The game will be broadcast on FOX.
