Bo Nix will be a true game-time decision for the No. 12 Ducks on Saturday when they host No. 10 Utah, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel.

The Oregon quarterback injured his ankle in last week’s 37-34 loss to Washington and was briefly forced out of the game because of it. According to Thamel, Oregon expects him to go through pregame warm-ups and then the team will make a decision one way or the other. If Nix is unavailable, second-year freshman Ty Thompson will draw his first career start.

Coach Dan Lanning was guarded this week when discussing the QB spot. He said on his weekly in-house radio hit that Nix was “preparing himself to go,” but that the staff had confidence in Thompson if it has to move to QB2.

Thompson has only thrown 20 passes this season, completing 11 while throwing two interceptions with no touchdowns. Nix beat him out for the lead job in the offseason. Thompson is one of the highest-rated prospects to sign with Oregon in the recruiting service era.

The former Auburn Tiger leads the nation with a 72.8% completion percentage and ranks third nationally in Total QBR. He has 39 total touchdowns in 10 games.

Kickoff between the Ducks and Utes is set for 7:30 p.m. PT on ESPN.
