Bo Nix lingered on the Oregon sideline for a beat. Towel over his head, Nix sat in the loss — maybe his last loss in his final college game.

After another three-point defeat at the hands of Washington in the Pac-12 Championship Game, Nix and the Ducks will get one more game. It’ll likely be a New Year’s Six bowl, but that’s little comfort for a team that was hoping to hoist a trophy and then go play for another.

“Football is a tough game,” Nix said. “Sometimes you put it all out there and you come up short. There at the end, it was just one of those things where you want the moment to last longer than what it can.

“I think what sometimes hurts is when you put it all out there and it’s still not good enough.”

Nix threw for 239 yards, ran for another 69 yards, and scored three touchdowns. He was instrumental in the Ducks’ furious 21-point rally to take a lead in the third quarter. Coach Dan Lanning said after the game Nix gave the Ducks a chance to win. A slow start was too much to overcome.

The finality of the moment hadn’t yet set in for Nix when he met with reporters in the postgame news conference. This is his final season. He’ll get drafted, but not he has to decide if the UW loss — his third in two seasons with the Ducks — will be his final game.

“I think that’s why I’m in shock. Expecting a game next week,” Nix said. “I’m going to miss college football. It was my goal my whole entire life to be a college quarterback and to win a national championship. Even though that may be off the table and it’s not necessarily something that can be obtained anymore, it was still a goal and I still worked for it every day.

“It’s disappointing to lose in a game like this. Going into the game, you don’t prepare for losing because that would be a loser’s mentality.”

Nix was asked if he plans to play in whatever bowl game Oregon is sent to. He said that decision hasn’t be made yet.

“That’s not today, that decision. I have no idea. I’m looking forward to whatever bowl game that is chosen for us,” Nix said. “I’m just trying to get over that loss. I’m not really thinking about anything after today.”
