Bo Nix plans to play for Oregon in Fiesta Bowl, says Dan Lanning
Bo Nix will take the field for Oregon one more time.
Head coach Dan Lanning revealed on a teleconference call with reporters Sunday that Nix intends to play in the Fiesta Bowl against No. 23 Liberty on Jan. 1. Nix told the team as much Sunday morning.
“I can say definitively that Bo Nix wants to go play in this game,” Lanning said. “He told his teammates the same thing this morning when we met as a team. I think he wants that opportunity to go out on that field one more time, and there’s several other guys who made that same decision.”
Some Oregon players could ultimately choose to opt out of the game. Lanning said he’ll let them make that announcement themselves. Concerns that Oregon might be disinterested in the game because of the opponent don’t appear to be much of an issue.
“I know how these guys operate and how they want to finish,” Lanning said.
With 309 yards and two touchdowns in the bowl game, Nix would tie Marcus Mariota for single-season program records in both categories. The super senior quarterback is already the all-time FBS record holder for starts in a career, and he’ll have a very realistic chance to take over Oregon’s passing records.
Nix is also 0.2% percentage points shy of the single-season FBS record for completion percentage.
After the 34-31 loss to Washington in Friday night’s Pac-12 Championship Game, Nix reflected on his football career but stopped short of sharing his bowl game plans.
Oregon fans didn’t have to wait long. Nix isn’t done yet.
