Bo Nix making major push for Heisman Trophy with recent hot streak
Bo Nix is in a two-man race for the Heisman Trophy at this point.
Nix has surged in the latest Heisman odds amid a run of outstanding games for the Oregon Ducks. Now, he and Washington quarterback Michael Penix Jr. are viewed as the two favorites to win the coveted award. Penix continues to lead the pack, with odds now at plus-148, but Nix is closing fast at plus-191.
Michigan’s JJ McCarthy and Florida State’s Jordan Travis are third and fourth, respectively.
The Ducks’ leading man had a phenomenal day in Oregon’s 63-19 win over Cal in Week 10. He completed 29 of his 38 passes for 386 yards and four touchdowns, while also rushing for two more scores on the ground.
Nix matched a career-high with six total touchdowns and recorded his fifth game as a Duck with five or more total scores.
Since the Washington loss, Nix has thrown for 927 yards and eight touchdowns while averaging 9.9 yards a pass.
On the season, Nix has 2,723 yards through the air, 25 passing touchdowns, five rushing touchdowns, and a nation-leading 78.1% completion rate. He ranks third nationally in Total QBR.
Oregon coach Dan Lanning has said multiple times this season he feels Nix is the best quarterback in the country, and Nix will certainly have a chance to prove it down the stretch. He and the Ducks face USC at Autzen Stadium on Saturday. After that, Oregon heads to Tempe to face Kenny Dillingham and Arizona State. Then they’ll return home for the regular-season finale against Oregon State.
If Oregon lands a rematch with Washington in the Pac-12 title game, the Heisman could be in line for the winner.
