Shedeur Sanders missed Utah game due to a fracture in his back
Shedeur Sanders was unavailable on Saturday when Colorado closed out the season against Utah. After exiting the game early the week prior, Colorado’s star quarterback missed his first game of the season.
Deion Sanders said after the loss to Washington State that hand and ankle issues were a factor in his exit. Heading into the finale, Deion was hopeful Shedeur might be able to play. Then, following the Utah loss on Saturday, Sanders simply said “Shedeur’s been hurting for a while.”
On Sunday night, in a video posted by Well Off Media — operated by Deion Sanders Jr. — it was revealed the Shedeur has a fracture in his back.
“Are they gonna say what happened to you when the game’s done?” Deion Jr. asked as he filmed Shedeur taking the field at Rice-Eccles Stadium.
“I don’t think so,” Shedeur responded.
“Because I want people to know,” Deion Jr. said.
As Shedeur walked through the back of the endzone, Deion Jr. posted text saying Shedeur has a fracture in his brother’s back.
“It’s crazy because I feel good,” Shedeur said in the video. “But when I start running for real, it’s like the idea is, ‘Ah, I feel good,’ but realistically you can’t. I can’t even throw right now.”
Deion has revealed at various points throughout the season Shedeur has received injections to manage pain and make it through games. He was under constant siege throughout the year, playing behind an offensive line that gave up the second-most sacks (56) of any team in the FBS. Shedeur was the most-sacked quarterback in football (52 times).
Despite what the 4-8 record would indicate, Shedeur made Colorado demonstrably better after transferring in from Jackson State. He completed 69.3% of his passes for 3,230 yards and 27 touchdowns with only three interceptions.
He set single-season records for passing yards, completion rate, and TD-to-interception ratio.
