Earlier this week, it was reported that Colorado has had discussions with Jackson State head coach Deion Sanders. Things appear to be moving quickly on that front.

The Athletic’s Bruce Feldman reported Saturday morning on FOX’s Big Noon Kickoff show that not only has CU spoken with Sanders, it has placed a significant offer in front of him.

“At Colorado, where they’re desperate to pump some life into this program, CU has offered Deion Sanders from Jackson State the job,” Feldman reported. “I’m told he has legit interest in becoming the Buffs’ new head coach. He’s 22-2 the last two years, but he really hasn’t gotten much buy-in from Power Five jobs with vacancies. I’m told if he can go there, people at CU are optimistic he can make this program nationally relevant for the first time in a long, long time.”

Prime Time led Jackson State to a 24-13 win over Alcorn on Saturday to cap the first perfect regular season in program history. He interviewed for positions at TCU and Colorado State last cycle.

Sanders has quickly risen in the coaching ranks as a program builder who can command attention and generate excitement. Last December, he pulled off a stunning recruiting coup when the No. 1 overall recruit in the class — 5-star defensive back Travis Hunter — flipped his commitment from Florida State to Jackson State in one of the biggest Signing Day surprises ever. Sanders also landed top-100 recruit Kevin Coleman and a slew of FBS transfers.

The Tigers are set to play in the SWAC Championship Game on Dec. 3.

Colorado entered Saturday’s final game of the season against Utah at 1-10. Depending on the finish, Colorado will have its worst season since 2014 (2-10) or 2012 (1-11).
