JT Shrout set to make another start for Colorado vs. Arizona State
JT Shrout will get another chance to lead the Buffaloes from the opening kick Saturday against Arizona State.
Colorado interim head coach Mike Sanford announced earlier this week on his weekly radio show that Shrout will draw a second straight start when the Buffs (1-6, 1-3 Pac-12) host the Sun Devils (2-5, 1-3) at Folsom Field on Saturday.
Owen McCown — a freshman starter for the Buffs from Sept. 24 – Oct. 15 — is still recovering from an injury he suffered in the team’s 20-13 overtime win over Cal. Shrout started last week’s 42-9 loss to Oregon State.
He’s been significantly better when playing at Folsom Field this season, but both appearances at home have come from off the bench. During them, Shrout has completed 60% of his passes for 226 yards and two scores with no interceptions.
In his three starts — all of them losses — Shrout has completed 45% of his passes for 507 yards, three scores, and three picks. The former Tennessee quarterback went 13-for-29 on his passes last week for a career-high 206 yards. He was picked off twice.
With McCown unavailable, Brendon Lewis figures to serve as Shrout’s backup. Lewis began the season as the starter.
Colorado and Arizona State kick off at 4:30 p.m. PT on ESPNU.
