Deion Sanders hype in full effect as Colorado posts record ticket sales for spring game
Deion Sanders is going to be one of the biggest shows in football next season, and the first chance for fans to see him take to Folsom Field this spring is already one of the hottest tickets in CU history.
According to BuffZone’s Brian Howell, Colorado has already sold 30,013 tickets for the spring game.
With two months still to go before the game, the number of tickets sold very nearly matches the total number of fans who have attended CU’s last seven spring games — all of which were free to enter. Colorado counted attendance for the 2022 spring game at 1,950, according to Howell.
The most-attended spring game in CU history drew 17,800 fans in 2008. Early indications are that the Buffs will shatter that record for Sanders’ unofficial debut.
For the first time, Colorado is selling tickets to its spring game, which is 2 months from tomorrow. So far, the #cubuffs have sold 30,013 tickets.
For perspective, CU counted a total of 30,450 fans who showed up (for free) to the last 7 spring games combined. Last year: 1,950.— Brian Howell (@BrianHowell33) February 21, 2023
CU is charging admission for the spring game this year for the first time ever. General admission tickets are priced at $10. Students still get in free, though.
Sanders’ hire at CU has supercharged the fanbase and given the Buffs a renewed sense of confidence they can compete in a major way. Howell also reported that nearly a quarter of the tickets that have been purchased so far were bought by new customers who had never bought tickets from Colorado before.
The season ticket renewal rate is also up, per Howell.
Sanders locked up a top-25 overall signing class in his first recruiting cycle with the Buffaloes. That features the No. 1 transfer class in the country. With more than 40 scholarship newcomers, the Buffaloes are set to undergo one of the most drastic one-year overhauls we’ve ever seen in college football.
Fans will get their first look at how things fit together on April 22. The intrasquad scrimmage is set for noon PT. CU opens the 2023 season on Sept. 2 at TCU, with the home opener on Sept. 9 against Nebraska.
