Deion Sanders has a team that believes.

That much was evident on Saturday when the new-look Colorado Buffaloes (1-0) upset No. 17 TCU in Fort Worth.

Procedurally, Colorado was smooth. The Buffs jumped out to a 24-14 lead only to see TCU catch fire offensively and battle back. Rather than wilt under mounting pressure, CU responded time and time again. The Buffs won the turnover battle, committed fewer penalties, and controlled time of possession.

It spoke to a team that had completely bought into the culture Sanders has tried to build at CU over his first year with the program. And for those who weren’t all the way onboard, Saturday provided proof of concept.

Sanders’ son, Deion Sanders Jr., has been documenting Sanders’ first year in Boulder on YouTube since their arrival. His videos provide a kind of behind-the-scenes access we don’t normally see with high-level college football programs.

Sanders Jr.’s latest video provides a look into the locker room before, during, and after the TCU game, and it shows a head coach for CU who knows exactly how to motivate his team.

Sanders’ pregame speech to his group ahead of the game was special.

“Usually God gives me a word long before this, but he’s been holding it,” Sanders began. “It’s not about them. This is about us. This has nothing to do with the team that’s opposing us. This is about us. This ain’t got nothing to do with the naysayers, the non-believers, the haters, the doubters. This is about us.

“When we started this journey, we told you it was going to be trying, it was going to be tough. But you endured because it’s about us. That man next to you is a miracle. That man next to you is a believer. That man next to you is a go-getter. That man next to you is a dog. That man next to you is someone who wants this thing. That man next to you is somebody who believes. That man next to you is somebody that’s got to have it today.

“We ain’t got tomorrow. We got now. We ain’t got next. We got now. We ain’t coming no more.”
