Deion Sanders could potentially require amputation of left foot
Deion Sanders is gearing up for his first season as head coach at Colorado. While “Coach Prime” has generated a lot of attention for his work overhauling the roster of the Buffs, there’s a possibility Sanders faces further health challenges off the field.
According to the Associated Press, Sanders allowed a camera crew from Thee Pregame Show to be present during a recent meeting with his medical team at Colorado. During one of the segments that aired on YouTube Friday, Sanders discussed his health outlook with Dr. Ken Hunt (orthopedic surgeon), Dr. Donald Jacobs (vascular surgeon), Dr. Max Wohlauer (vascular surgeon) and Lauren Askevold (athletic trainer).
In those conversations, Dr. Jacobs informed Sanders the coach needs to “understand what the risks are. Things can cascade.” Jacobs went on to add it’s possible Sanders “could lose the foot” as opposed to losing another toe.
“Well, I know what risks are,” said Sanders. “I only have 8 toes. So, I’m pretty sure I understand.”
As for his current health, Sanders admitted he has no feeling on the bottom of his left foot. He’s also interested in pursuing a procedure right away if a procedure is recommended due to the busy nature of the college football schedule.
“I want to do it this summer because when we get rolling, I’m not going to have time to do it,” Sanders said. “This is the best downtime I have.”
Sanders’ health became a talking point during the 2021 season when he had 2 toes amputated while serving as the head coach at Jackson State. He missed 3 games in the 2021 season as a result.
