The No. 1 player from the state of Colorado was originally scheduled to be in Texas on an official visit this weekend. Instead, he’s coming to Cal.

According to 247Sports’ Blair Angulo, Blake Purchase, a 4-star edge rusher from Englewood (Colo.) Cherry Creek, will make his way to Berkeley for an official visit. He’s the latest addition to a visitor list that runs a half-dozen deep.

Purchase rates as the No. 31 edge prospect in the 2023 class and the 237th overall recruit by the industry-generated 247 Composite. The folks at 247 love him, rating him as the 106th overall player in the class. (ESPN’s recruiting system rates him lower than Rivals and 247, hence the difference in national ranks.)

The talented athlete also plays basketball and participates in track and field for his high school. As a junior, he averaged 12.5 points, 5.6 rebounds, two assists, and two steals on the hardwood for Cherry Creek. On the football field, he was credited with 83 tackles, 18 tackles for loss, 12 sacks, seven pass breakups, two interceptions, and a fumble recovery.

Cal is competing with Iowa State, Oregon, and Washington, among others, for Purchase’s signature.
