Cal got great news on Tuesday.

Zurich Ashford, a 3-star defensive end from Las Vegas (Nev.) Arbor View, announced his commitment to the Golden Bears on social media. Ashford picked Cal over interest from Oregon State, Washington State, and Colorado, among others.

A 6-foot-2, 250-pound defensive end, Ashford rates as a 3-star prospect in the Top247, 247Sports’ own ranking. He doesn’t yet have a score in the industry-generated 247 Composite, though expect that to change now that he’s announced his commitment. The folks at 247Sports have Ashford pegged as the 155th-ranked defensive lineman in the 2023 class.

Ashford took an official visit to Oregon State back in June and was slated to be in Pullman in September for an official to Washington State. But once an offer came in from Cal—officially on July 28, less than a week ago—he didn’t need much time before pulling the trigger. The defensive lineman told 247Sports after getting the offer that he had “loved the school” since he was younger.

As a junior last fall, Ashford put up 16 tackles for loss and 12 sacks.

His verbal pledge gives Cal its eighth known commitment for the 2023 class. You can view his highlight tape below, via Hudl:
