Cal basketball had a player reportedly enter the transfer portal on Thursday after what was a disastrous 2022 campaign. The Golden Bears exited the Pac-12 Tournament with a 68-59 loss to Washington State on Wednesday after winning just three games this season.

Stockriser.com’s Jake Weingarten reported that Joel Brown is planning on entering the portal as a graduate transfer.

Brown has been with Cal since 2019. Brown played in 122 games for the Golden Bears. He averaged 6.9 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 3.2 assists per game this season. In his final game he had 7 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists.

Brown’s veteran presence could be a valuable asset for whatever team he decides to play for next. Out of high school Brown was rated as a 3-star recruit by Rivals.

Cal ended the regular season with a last place finish in the Pac-12 after going 2-18 in conference play. The last win of the season for Cal came against Stanford on Jan. 6.

This news comes shortly after reports started circulating that the Golden Bears were planning on firing head coach Mark Fox.

More players on Cal’s roster may opt for the portal in the coming days. Saturday Out West will keep you updated on any further transfer portal additions.
