Cal Athletics releases statement following string of Pac-12 exits
Cal Athletics is following the string of realignment moves with a close eye. As of now, the Golden Bears are in a position to be one of four remaining Pac-12 programs when the dust settles.
After Colorado previously announced it was leaving the league to return to the Big 12, other Pac-12 programs began to make moves. Oregon and Washington officially announced their move to the Big Ten on Friday, and a trio of Arizona, Arizona State and Utah are reported to be in the finishing stages of a move to the Big 12.
Friday evening, Cal Chancellor Carol Christ and AD Jim Knowlton put out a statement addressing the realignment. Most notably, the statement claimed that the university is not “watching and waiting from the sidelines.”
It went on to say Cal is and will continue to evaluate a variety of options to help student-athletes continue to thrive:

When all the reported moves from Friday are finalized, the remaining Pac-12 teams are expected to be down to Cal, Stanford, Oregon State and Washington State. Whether that quartet stands united and tries to attract other programs or bolts for the best offer available remains to be seen.
