Cal has named offensive lineman Matthew Cindric and linebacker Jackson Sirmon team captains for the upcoming football season/

The program shared the news on social media Sunday. Put to a team vote, the senior interior lineman and former UW linebacker were selected to captain the team throughout the 2023 campaign.

Cindric has been with the program since 2018. He’s Cal’s active career leader in games played (34) and starts (33) over the last four seasons. He played in six games last season before a season-ending injury, making starts at center over the first three weeks and then at right guard over the next three.

Sirmon came to Berkeley last year after four seasons and 33 appearances for Washington. The son of Cal defensive coordinator Peter Sirmon, the 6-foot-2, 240-pound linebacker was a first-team All-Pac-12 selection during his first year with the Golden Bears.

Both Cindric and Sirmon are in their sixth year of college ball.

The season begins for Cal on Saturday when it hosts North Texas. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. PT.
